My High School Experience.

I graduated this week, so today I thought I would talk a bit about my experience. I guess I never thought High School would be the way it was. I always thought that I'd have the perfect friends, go to the most fun school, have the perfect boyfriend, and simply have a good time. That's what I'd always dreamed of, at least. But, as it came to an end, I realized that I didn't exactly enjoy my time whatsoever. High school was NOT for me. In fact, they were probably the worst years of my life. Depressing? Yep. But I really want to be real with you guys. The point of this post is not to talk about what bad things happened during this time..but rather to tell you what I've learned. Hopefully my mistakes and what I've seen in High School will help some of you out, or at least encourage you to be the best you, you can be.

Firstly, the word "Friend" is a big word, so don't use it like I once did, very freely. A friend is someone who loves you for you. Who helps you when you need it. Who is loyal.

Secondly, following trends is one of the biggest traps that people fall into, and one of the biggest mistakes. You only live once (Please don't think I agree with the whole "Yolo" thing, because I really don't haha), and I truly believe Kurt Cobains words when he said that being someone else is a waste of the person you are.

Thirdly, don't just fall for any guy my lovely lady viewers. I fell into this trap once or twice, and I saw so many girls fall for any guy, and let me tell you, it got them in trouble. Falling in love with a man is so much different than simply being attracted to them. Get to know them before you commit!

Fourthly, speak out about your problems. I had and still have a tendency to simply write instead of talk to people and get help on them. It was one of the biggest mistakes in the world. I went through so much pain, with loved ones dying, and yet I fell silent. My smile was only on the outside, on the inside my world was falling apart.

Those are probably the top 4 things I would say were a big deal for me or the other people in my life in High School. Although in a way, they were good things. They made me realize what I didn't want to be like someday. They made me stronger.

What did you guys learn during your years in High School?

  2. You are very wise for someone so young. Every point you have made is true and applies even after high school Humans are vulnerable and even though we learn from mistakes, we are prone to making them again. Each time learning a little me. We have to learn to be patient with ourselves. Writing to externalise feelings is not a bad thing and good therapy, as long as you don't use it as a substitute for human contact.

    1. Wow, thank you so much Yobial. I really loved reading your comment and agree with every word of it. About writing, I couldn't have said it better. As long as your losing contact with people, about your problems, writing is the most amazing therapy in the world. At least for me! :D

  3. I'd say the biggest lesson I learned in high school is that most everything is temporal and transient. You will have friends who will stick with you to the end, but most will fall short of that. You will learn things that you'll forget because most of it didn't matter. But you'll find yourself defined by the emotions you felt and the state you were in when you learned it. And, who knows, you may need to tell someone what the Pythagorean theorem is, who Juliet's cousin was, or why electricity works.
Most things will be temporary. Our life, itself, is temporary. Instead on dwelling on this fact like too many cynics do, I found liberation in the fact that I will be, most likely, forgotten by most I went to school with. My name will be on the record's list for track and field for a while. They'll know me as the runner/writer with a mouth as big as his brain and who didn't know when to turn off either. But my name and the little idiosyncrasies that made me ME. Well, they'll be nothing more than a shadow of consciousness. A memory that may bubble up at random years from now. I, to them, was nothing more than a fleeting character in the narrative in their life. It's liberating; I was able to be whomever I wanted to and find confidence in myself.
I learned to be my own person. I learned how to be free.

    1. I agree 100% about friends - So many are only in the relationship for selfish reasons. To find true friends is something beautiful and rare, is it not? That is so cool that you learned how to be your own person, a lot of people go into the later years of their life and still don't know how to do that. Good for you my friend, you learned some great things. Very inspiring!
