Life is full of ups and downs that can change how we think and act. It can make us better people, or can tear us apart. Happiness is something we strive for daily. Wanting a car, having enough money to pay off the bills, getting that one thing for Christmas that you truly wanted, these things are some of many that lead us to believe we can achieve happiness by simply receiving. Sure, those things will make you happy temporarily..but not in the long run. So how can you achieve true eternal happiness? These are some things that I believe can help us out. The first thing is watch you're thoughts. We think about many things during the day and can lead ourselves to believe that everything we think is true. Like that you're ugly, or prideful, or rude. But the truth is, you're mind can play games with you. It can lead you to believe something that is totally false. So make sure to think happy thoughts and don't take you're thoughts too seriously. A quote that I think sums this up is this.
“The mind is a place of it's own. And in itself can make a heaven of hell and a hell of heaven.”
Find you're purpose. Many people would say to know God, to change someones life, or to go into a major company as a CEO. Every person has different purposes and talents that we've been called to pursue and use for the good of others. That's what makes us so unique. Some to inspire, some to show kindness, some to be a servant. What is YOUR purpose?
See the little things in life. True happiness does not just exist in buying a house or getting married. It's the little things that go unnoticed that can also be life changing. It will change you're point of view. It will inspire you. ♥
Don't dwell on the past or future...but rather on the here and now. I think everyone can confess that most of the time we are thinking thoughts about the past or future. In the past.. What did I say to her? Why did I do that? Why was I ever into him? These things can tear us apart. I know they have for me. Also the future. What am I going to do about that situation? What am I going to do with my life? Focus on the now! Because we only have ONE life to live. Why live it regretting and worrying?
Focus on what you have rather than what you don't. Often times we become used to things like a house, clothes, water, and food. We don't realize that there are millions of people living on a street corner starving to death. So be thankful for each and every thing that has been put in our lives. We are truly blessed.
Be kind. This one is obvious but I don't think that we can truly say we're nice to everyone. It's hard sometimes! But just remember that God calls us to love. Even if you don't believe in God, kindness and compassion will make you a happier and overall better person. Don't look at kindness as a chore..but rather an opportunity to grow. There are always going to be those people who want to bring us down. Sometimes for no reason at all. But loving them and being kind usually will make them do the same to you. Remember..The more you give the more you will receive. Focus on the better person you want to be rather than changing for somebody else.
The last thing is don't criticize yourself. Often times that can be the cause of us being unhappy. Looking in the mirror and looking at all of our imperfections is scarring. Rather than look to the negative..tell yourself what you love about yourself. Tell yourself that yes, I am not perfect, but I do have good qualities. This will change you're point of view on life and make you feel better about yourself. And who doesn't need that?
Lastly I wanted to say that maintaining true happiness is not an easy process. In fact in may be the hardest thing you'll ever do. But the end factor is you being a better person and loving people from you're heart, not just because you have to. Because it's life. Crap happens. And why not be able to know how to deal with it? :)
Hey everyone. Thought I would share this letter with you. Originally I wrote it for myself..but I thought hey, why not share it with you guys? I hope it inspires you somehow.
